Running an Intuitive Business

What is an intuitive business? 

By definition, it’s a business that is guided by your intuition, through inspired action and a strategy that is aligned with your values, your mission, your goals, your ultimate desires, and your dreams.

Sounds juicy, doesn’t it?

At the core of any intuitive business is being able to clearly say “no” when something doesn’t align with your intuition. 

So what is the advantage to running an intuitive business?

Increased satisfaction with the work you do. Loving Mondays. Being excited to turn your computer on and get down to work because the work you’re doing is what you WANT to be doing and it’s what you were literally made to do.

How Do You Start Flexing Your Intuitive Business Muscle?

Get really clear on your mindset. An intuitive business naturally comes about as a byproduct of intentionally working on your mindset and starting to really listen to yourself, becoming aware of your thoughts, your patterns, and your habitual beliefs. It happens when you start digging deep and re-writing your story and figuring out what it is that you’re telling yourself that you can’t have….and why you’re telling yourself that. 

Once you get that going you’ll notice it becomes a snowball effect: it will unlock something deep within yourself and the rest will naturally follow.

If you’re feeling like you’re not really happy doing what you’re doing, or like you’re not moving forward, or even like you’re unworthy of what you have this is THE time to do the work on your mindset and shift your energy to what feels right for you deep down. 

And if you’re feeling guilty about wanting certain things? Even more reason to do the work on your mindset and figure out why you keep telling yourself these thoughts and going in and restructuring and figuring out the “why” underneath it all.

Once that happens, not only will you feel the shift in your personal life, but in your business as well.

Stop “Shoulding” and Shift To Your Intuition

We live in the “shoulds” so often instead of doing what feels right for us. You “should” have a sales page for anything you sell online, right? But if that sales page is stopping you from actually launching your product, it’s time to consider whether that sales page really needs to be done now, or can it wait until later?

This applies especially to the perfectionists reading this – if you are striving for A+ work as a perfectionist, I can guarantee that your B- work will be more than good enough for everyone else.

To get to that place where your business is running intuitively, you need to strip everything away and get back to the basics. Start by asking yourself these three main questions:

  1. Why are you doing what you’re doing?
  2. What is your mission?
  3. Who are you helping?

Notice how none of the above asked anything about what you’re currently selling?

You don’t need to focus on what you’re selling, which I know seems counterproductive from a business standpoint, but if you’re feeling like you’re out of alignment you will grow to resent your business. And if you can’t seem to move forward in your business no matter what you do, it might be because you’re selling the wrong things because you’ve lost your connection to your why and your mission.

When you’re out of alignment it is literally impossible to grow your impact, influence, and income, because it feels forced and because you’re not trusting yourself – which means you’re not stepping into that leadership role that you need to in order to really create that change and that impact in the people that you’re here to help.

The key to all of this is to silence the noise and start listening to your intuition, and your highest self (which is the version of you who knows you can do anything and is there to help you do it).

How To Transition to an Intuitive Business

What happens more often than not is somebody is doing multiple things in their business, or trying to serve multiple people, but what they really want to be doing is this one thing for this one person. It’s not easy to shift overnight to that one thing, but you can start taking baby steps to get there.

Start by owning your niche. Start doing that one thing for that one person and stop trying to be the jack of all trades. Trying to be everything to everyone will just result in you being spread thin and you won’t actually be attracting the people to your business that you really want to work with.

If you set your business up in a way that supports what you actually want to be doing for the people that you actually want to be helping, then you know that’s the perfect time to switch because you’re getting that hit of excitement, you’re feeling it in your gut, and it’s time to role with that momentum.

We, as humans, tend to tell ourselves lots of reasons for why we can’t do what we want to do, instead of acknowledging that we have the power to control exactly what we do.

In terms of the transition time from your current business to an intuitive business, it really depends on what you have going on, and what you feel comfortable with. It might feel better to finish off the projects that you’re working on, or close off the retainer clients that you have, or wait until relationships naturally end. 

There is something to be said for quick inspired action and making things happen fast though. Sometimes if you give yourself too much time you’re really just not going to do it because you lose the excitement that you had in the beginning – but above all, the transition has to feel right for you. After all, that’s what an intuitive business is all about, right?
