You’re probably been told to niche down, niche down, niche down….but have you been told how to do just that?
Niching down is one of the best ways to really attract your ideal clients – the clients that you want to work with, that value what you have to offer, and that make owning a business a joy instead of a hassle.
Ask yourself these questions:
For example: maybe you’re a photographer looking to niche down. You’ve been doing weddings and family sessions, but maybe you’re looking to niche down because photographers that do what you do are a dime a dozen. You’ve always had an interest in birth and babies, and when you look up “birth photographer” in your area, you realize that there are only a handful (if that) of birth photographers.
I think this is a really cool example of getting creative with your niche and just kind of putting yourself out there and going for it!
You’ve answered the above questions, found your niche, but now what?
Now the fun begins!
I’ve heard from a lot of people that they struggle with branding at first, but it’s an important exercise to go through because it really makes you think about your “why,” and for me, that wasn’t something I realized right away. In fact, I was acting very much on intuition and sometimes getting ahead of myself, but sometimes that’s actually the best way to figure things out!
My biggest piece of advice is to believe that you ARE the expert. Once you believe this, really and truly believe this, you will naturally impart that in your branding.
If local entrepreneurship is something that you want to work on, for example, then I would really suggest adding your city to your website.
Make sure that on your blog posts you are tagging the city that you’re in, putting it in your SEO settings, and if you’re on Instagram make sure that you are also tagging the city that you want to target.
Also just make sure that your business says whatever your business is doing and then the city – for example, if you’re a birth photographer in Austin, Texas, maybe sure your website clearly says “Birth Photographer Serving Austin, Texas” multiple times so you can rank higher in SEO rankings and start to get more of those local clients.
Get out there and network. Find a local group, like The Rising Tide Societies Tuesdays and join them and just see how things are going be a part of the community. I started doing this recently and it was such a huge boost to my self-esteem and also just getting to know the local community here has been amazing, so I’d love for you to challenge yourself to invest in that locality and start to make a difference in your own community!
Or if your clients are not local, network in some online groups where your counterparts or ideal clients hang out and start engaging! When someone needs to refer out, or a client is looking for someone, your name will be top of mind!
